minx goes shoppin…

Tis the season for cardigans and never too proud to accept a shopping invitation from my aunt, I braced for the mob of Green Hills Mall and trudged forth.  Though our excursion was intended for conservative-Baptist-wedding-wear for my aunt, I felt confident I could sneak in a choice item or three…

Our first stop was White House Black Market, the conservative, chain boutique specializing in work/cocktail attire.  Many times I’ve window shopped at White House Black Market where of course, everything is black and/or white (okay, okay occasional greys), but have never found an item to suit my fancy– until I saw the cardigan set, the leopard cardigan set.

Cardigans are my most favorite in fall apparel– yes, cardigans the cliche in frumpy button down sweaters, the epitome of school marm, the love of my fashion life!

Taken with my bounty, we continued pursuit of Baptist-wedding-wear at Harold’s (their website doesn’t do their clothes justice, you’re going to have to carry it on over to GH).  My gross preconceptions were abound of what horror I might find behind the modest, frumpy window displays.  I entered in awe, shocked to find a plethora of fun patterns:  vivid paisleys, bohemian chic and loads of animal prints (my favorite of which, a red cashmere cardigan dappled with brown/black leopard spots, is not on their website- F!).

Harold’s’ prints are a brilliant juxtaposition of traditional tailoring with bold color and unique pattern.  They also have a heaping helping of big bangles, vintage glam jewelry and a fairly decent sale section.

In my conquest for cardigans, I learned an important lesson: never let preconceived notions of dull old-lady-stores discourage your shopping endeavors; gems can be found in the most drab and dowdy of chain stores.
